How to Edit Translations on Google Slides
Slides were translated from English to the target language with Translator AI GPT with all of the words in text boxes.
All of the slide thumbnails will appear vertically on the left side.
Hover over the small horizontal line under the slide and a hand icon will appear. Use it to push the slide up to reveal the English text at the bottom.
Review slides one at a time and confirm these:
a. Titles/ Headers are in all capital letters
b. Bullet points or other text are in mixed capital and lowercase letters
c. Words all fit within the text box area (Click on the text to see the blue text box area.)
d. Words are correctly translated
Perserve Formatting for all of these elements:
- Fonts- Titles use Open Sans (Extra Bold); Other text uses Oswald (Extra Light).
- Font sizes- Titles are 100; Other text is 70. (Only decrease if absolutely necessary to fit the space.)
- Capitalization- Titles are all capital letters; Other text uses mixed upper/lowercase letters.
- Bullet Points - Lines that don't fit are wrapped and indented 4 spaces. (Use SHIFT RETURN.)
- Animation Order- text lines/ elements appear in the same sequence as original English.
- Text color- Keep it the same as original English.
- Margins- All edges must maintain minimum margins so content is not cut off or crowded.
- Punctuation- Use same punctuation as original English; Do not add additional punctuation.
IMPORTANT: Before beginning, confirm you have the correct fonts installed on your computer. (If you do not have them, an incorrect substitute font will appear and will cause size and style issues.)
Install these free fonts (and add them to your Font Book in Applications):
- Open Sans- Go to: https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/open-sans
- Oswald- Go to: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Oswald
a. To preserve formatting, type in the correction inside of the first incorrect word, then delete the incorrect word(s).
b. Sometimes it is necessary to accommodate a lengthly translation by increasing the size of the text box, or by decreasing the size of the font. Only do this if absolutely necessary.
c. Confirm the text doesn't interfere with images on slides. Slight adjustments to text box may need to be made.
d. Confirm the title/ header has "breathing room" so it does not appear crowded/ cut off/ overlapped with other elements.
e. Line up the left and right edges of the title/ header with the bullet points in the text box below. A red vertical line will appear indicating that they are lined up.
f. Confirm that the bullet points appear in the same expected sequence as the orignial English. A lengthy bullet point that does not fit all on one line in the text box will be wrapped and that wrapped line will be indented 4 spaces. (To do this: Use SHIFT RETURN and 4 spaces for that. When RETURN or ENTER is used, a new animation line is created.)
g. Text Highlight color should be Transparent. If the translation has a white highlight, you will need to change it to transparent like this: 1.) Click on the text box. 2.) Select the text. 3.) Format. 4.) Text. 5.) Highlight Color. 6.) Transparent. Here is an example of changing the Highlight color to transparent on the title. (This slide will also need the Highlight color changed on the other text box.)
a. Slides save automatically.
b. If the video is already created, be sure to write down any slide numbers that are edited so the video can be corrected where changes are necessary.
c. Any questions, just ask! :)
You are done. Great job!
