How to Add UTM Codes to Track Sources
UTMs, or Urchin Tracking Modules, are a tracking device to help you get really specific with your traffic source. UTM tracking involves adding unique UTM codes to your URLs to easily identify exactly where your traffic is coming from.
How to Create UTM Codes
Visit Social Media Master Sheet and access the list of UTM Codes. Find it in Zoho at:
https://sheet.zoho.com/sheet/open/0lyjd13ca55e8013640b68aa20d3c4058c443?sheet=UTM%20Codes&range=B15

Locate campaign platform and topics (eg: Newsletter, Paid Ads, Social DMs, Holiday sale, seminars, challenges) and see if UTM codes have been created previously.
If active UTM codes are available, move to Step 6.

If UTM is not created, please use the following template:
?utm_source=FILL&utm_medium=FILL&utm_campaign=FILL&utm_content=FILL
Replace ‘FILL’ with relevant and accurate title or description. Spaces are not allowed. Please use underscore if space is needed. Keep these as short and simple as possible.
Source: Where the link is being placed. Eg: ZohoMarketing, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Home_Page, etc.
Medium: What the link is being placed or connected to. Eg: IGStories, IGReels, DirectMessages, Email_Header, PaidAds, PaidSocialCarousel, PaidStaticAds
Campaign: Name of campaign eg: HolidaySale22, ECChallenge, CloseoutSale, DallasSeminar21
Content: Specific color, CTA, or other relevant info on the ad/creative. Eg: shopnow, signuptoday, purplead, green_carousel
Example:
utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=paidsocialcarousel&utm_campaign=Valentines22&utm_content=shopnow
Once UTM is created, paste the code into the relevant section.
Add UTM Code to the link by pasting it at the end of the link desired.
Example:
DiscoverHealing.com/Sale?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=paidsocialcarousel&utm_campaign=Valentines22&utm_content=shopnow
Create short link via bit.ly (login info available through Zoho Vault). Paste shortlink into sheet for easy copy & paste access.
You are done. Great job!
