How to Create Graphic Files in Canva
- Go to http://canva.com and log in. Please ensure you are logging in via the Marketing account or a user profile linked to Discover Healing’s Canva. You can access login information via Zoho Vault.
- Click “Create a Design” on the top right corner.
- Select which type of design you would like to create. Eg: Instagram Post, Instagram Story, Facebook Post, YouTube Thumbnail. For this example, we will select Instagram Post (Square).

- This will pull up a blank design. You can either begin your design by selecting a template or starting from scratch. If you choose a template, you can search for what type of template you’d like by clicking “Designs.” (Eg: Testimonials, Quotes, Sales, Christmas)
- Click “Designs” to search for templates.

- Use Search field to find the type of template you would like to use.

- If you select a template, you can begin editing the elements in the template to fit the brand and add the content you want. For this example, we will use a testimonial.

Select which slides you would like to use and copy and paste them into your design.
Whether you are creating a template from scratch or working with a pre-made template, the following steps will still apply.
a. Adding/ Editing Text
- To add text, click “Text” option on the panel at the left side of the screen
- You can select a premade text design or click the type of text you’d like. Branded front will also be on the left panel to select from. You can edit text designs to be a branded font.

- Once the text is added, you can edit the text by clicking on the text element. You can type or copy and paste the text you’d like to add.
- You can further customize your text by selecting the font, color, size, line spacing, position, and effects.
b. Adding/Editing Photos
- To add photos, visit Elements and search for the type of photo you’d like. In this instance, we are searching “happy person”. Click on the photo to add it.

- Oftentimes, you’ll want to remove the background in a photo. You can do this by selecting “Edit Photo” and “BG Remover”. You can also select other effects such as filters, blurs, etc. The sample principe applies, simply click on the effect or tool you’d like.

c. Adding/Editing Shapes, Frames, and Graphics
- To add a shape or frame, search in elements the type of shape you’d like or type “frames”.
- Select which shape or frame you’d like to add. For this example, we will be adding stars.



- To edit a shape or other graphic element, simply click on the element you would like to edit.
- Please note that same elements are considered photos and cannot be edited the same way other elements can.



d. Adding Backgrounds and Gradients
- Backgrounds and gradients are similar to other elements.
- Click on “Elements” on the left panel and type in your desired element. (Eg: Christmas background, gradient)
- For this example, we will use gradients.
- You can filter by graphics or photos. Graphics will most often be editable, where you can adjust the colors of the gradients in the same way you adjust other elements’ colors.

- Please note that went selecting a graphic gradient, you will need to stretch out the gradient and adjust the location the layer. This can be done by clicking the element and using CTRL+[ to move the image to the back.
- If you select a photo, you will need to right click the image and select “Replace Background”.
