Quick Reference Guide

We need to be increasingly vigilant to comply with Federal Trade Commission guidelines.

Here is a quick reference guide for language we will and will not use for describing different elements related to energy work.

This is not a complete list of words, but is representative. Remember, whenever in doubt, choose the language that is "softer" or more general.

  • Avoid language that implies a guarantee or an unsubstantiated claim. Do not state anything like it's a fact. Don’t talk about helping them heal or get well. We are helping, not healing.
  • Always put the word “energy” before “healing” or “practitioner.”
  • Avoid referencing treating specifically titled medical conditions or mental health conditions. Instead of conditions like fibromyalgia, use words like discomfort. Instead conditions like depression, use words like sadness. Instead of anxiety, use anxiousness.
  • Instead of words like pain and trauma, use words like discomfort, suffering, stressful, difficult, emotionally charged.
  • Avoid statements like “determine what is holding you back”  and instead use “determine what could be holding you back"
  • Identify Emotion Code / Body Code / Belief Code as energy work, alternative energy healing or energy balancing method.
  • Instead of words like heal or cure, use words like: recover, reduce, improve, restore, balance, resolve, well-being, wellness, health restored.
  • Do not use the words (or forms of the words) physician, patient, treatment, therapy, psychology. Instead use practitioner, client, help, session, or emotional descriptors.
